Meet "The Candy Girl"
Brooklyn Jewelgasm founder and owner Ericka Tapia has always gravitated towards shiny things. As a kid, she spent countless hours sifting through her mother's jewelry chests.
As she grew up, that curiosity turned to ambition and she ventured off into her hometown city in search of new experiences, new people, and inspiration. What better place to explore, then New York City?!!
At the age of 22, Ericka scored a gig at the Council of Fashion Designers of America where she assisted in the special events department—there, she garnered an insider feel of the Fashion World and knew she had found a calling. A couple of years later, her ambition and entrepreneur spirit superseded thus, venturing out on her own. After the CFDA she transitioned over to freelancing as a makeup artist--studying under her mentors, shuffling motherhood and working as a Youth Program Coordinator all while attending NYU – she was determined to make it on her own.
With only her killer instinct and intense passion for fashion, jewels and shiny stuff, she set up Brooklyn Jewelgasm headquarters in her apartment. She did everything herself: scoured the city for jewels, collaborated with photographer friends to shoot look books, designed and managed the website herself, and did her best to spread the word online via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Since Brooklyn Jewelgasm’s humble beginnings, Ericka has built a loyal following among actresses, reality stars, street fashionistas, Fashion Magazine Editors and CEO’s, Fashion Bloggers and 22K instagram followers and counting. She has been declared the “Candy Girl” for her amazing Wrist Candy and Arm Charm Sets by her peers. While she continues to grow Brooklyn Jewelgasm, the Brooklyn Native is adamant at giving back to the community, mentoring young girls and setting the trend of a Positive Sister.
Ericka continues to be deeply involved with the design, buying, styling, and overall vision of the Brooklyn Jewelgasm brand, but loves most to meet the ladies–the customers–that have inspired Brooklyn Jewelgasm to be what it is today.
